Q. How do I qualify to become a member of Newtownhamilton Credit Union?
Membership of Newtownhamilton Credit Union is open to anyone who lives or works within our common bond (as well as family members). A child or step-child of a member who is under the age of 18 and living outside the common bond but resident in the Republic of Ireland or the United Kingdom will also be accepted for membership.
What is a “Common Bond”?
This is what unites all members of a credit union. The Common Bond defines the geographic area in which we can operate as a community credit union. Any person and their family members who are living or working in the area are eligible for membership.
Q. What documentation do I need to open an account?
To open a savings account you’ll need the following;
- Evidence of ID: For example a current valid Passport, or Drivers Licence.
- Evidence of Address: For example, a recent Utility Bill, Local Authority Document, Official Document from a Government Body or Bank/Building Society statement.

Loan Questions
Q. I’ve just joined the Credit Union. When can I apply for a loan?
Straight away! Members of Newtownhamilton Credit Union don’t need to have an established savings record to be considered for loan approval. You can open an account and apply for a loan on the same day. The Loan Officers will make decisions based on individual circumstances.
Q. How much money do I need in my account to allow me to make a loan application?
You can open an account and apply for a loan with as little as £5 in your account.
